Fourteen men were killed by a hoisting accident.  The men were being hoisted in the cage from the 6th, 7th, and 8th levels.  When the cage reached the surface, the engineer was unable to stop the engine, and the cage was drawn up into the gallows temporarily.  The strain on the cable caused it to break and the cage was released and shot down into the shaft.
