This explosion that took the lives of five coal miners and injured eleven others was attributed by safety engineers to an ignition of gas by faulty electrical equipment.  Evidence disclosed that an open-type electrical drill established as the source of the ignition was the "non-permissible" type and that its rubber-covered cable was spliced and taped near the drill.
